Valentine's Day is approaching quickly. It will be here before we know it. Finding a unique gift for this holiday can be quite a challenge. Routine gift choices range from a heart-shaped box of chocolates to a vase filled with fresh-cut flowers to a heart-shaped pendant on a chain. We have become very traditional in our gift choices for this romantic holiday and very boring, as well. I have a very different suggestion for a Valentine's Day gift. What could be more unique than giving your sweetheart a Fruit Basket this year?
Fruit is a delicious, healthy option that everyone seems to enjoy. It is healthier and much more nutritious than chocolate candy. Nothing compares in taste to a juicy, fresh piece of seasonal fruit. A basket filled with delicious selections of juicy pineapple, sweet pears, crisp apples, fragrant oranges, and tangy grapefruit offer a wholesome treat which pleases every palate and satisfies sweet-tooth cravings, as well.
Fruit baskets are arranged very attractively...just as beautiful as a bouquet of flowers. Just picture the strategically placed pineapple located in the center of the basket surrounded by the vividly colorful assortment of green pears, red apples, bright oranges, and yellow grapefruits. Add other fruits with more muted hues like kiwi and peaches to create an even more eye-popping color combination. This tasteful arrangement of the fruits makes the fruit basket very appetizing as well as beautiful.
There are a variety of containers in which to place the fruit. These containers can be used over and over again, making a much more useful and practical gift than expensive jewelry. One container choice could be simple serving platter or cutting board in which to slice the fruit into bite-size pieces. The fruit on this surface could be held in place with colorful cellophane wrap. Another container choice could be a keepsake box with a beautiful watercolor painted on the lid, holding flawless fruit arranged in uniformed rows. The most impressive container in which to present a large assortment of fruit is a huge willow basket with a colorful hand-tied bow across the top of the handle.
Of course, habits are difficult to break, so if you feel the need to include some of the usual Valentine gifts, these can easily be incorporated in the basket along with the fruit. Simply include a single red rose or add a few wrapped chocolate kisses to the fruit basket. If jewelry is your passion, a small box holding an inexpensive Italian charm ankle bracelet or keychain can be placed amid the pieces of fruit. A bottle of wine would go very nicely with fruit and would be a pleasant addition to the fruit basket.
However, I suggest forgetting about giving the high-calorie, fattening candy. Don't even consider giving a bouquet of flowers that droop before the day is even over. Be more creative than giving the predictable gift of jewelry. Let your Valentine know you truly care by giving him/her a beautiful, delicious, healthy basket of fruit...the unique Valentine's Day gift.
